Major Chinese Holidays

Feb. 1, 2010

The Chinese enjoy three major holidays every year.  These holidays are seven days long and provide a perfect time for travel and family gatherings.  These holidays will impact your project’s manufacturing and delivery date.  Please avoid making any visitation arrangements to China during these times.
Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year falls between the end of January to the middle of February.  Although restaurants and shopping malls may stay open, almost all manufacturing facilities across China comes to a halt.  This is a time for celebration and many workers travel back to their hometown for a family gathering.
From the 1st of May to the 7th, Labor Day in China is also another significant, week-long holiday.  During this time, many people either choose to stay home or take a hectic vacation away from the city.  It is required for most manufacturing plants to shut down its operations for the duration of the week.

The Chinese National Holiday, from October 1st to the 7th, is the last 7-day holiday week for the Chinese.  The National Day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.  It is not mandatory but rather, a common practice for most businesses to remain closed for the holiday.
